As the temperature slowly
starts to suggest it will be getting colder here in the North East, the
2007 reenacting season draws to a close for the 1/4 Cav. Members of the
unit attended one reunion, four Living History events, and three
tacticals. A part of a very successful season, the unit sent
representatives to a new location for Living History events in
Philadelphia. One of our members is working closely with the event
coordinator to plan some good events for next year at the Fort Mifflin
historical site.

April saw the members of Quarter
Horse working together yet again to impress. With the help of all hands,
the bunker was erected after digging a 3ft deep, 9x6 foot hole. The
result was well worth the work. The group had the opportunity to speak
with some remarkable veterans and listen to their stories. The film crew
led by Mike Attie (who have been coming to events for the past year and
a half to film a documentary and have been interviewing the members and
veterans), were also in attendance. However, due to an intense storm
which was expected to hit on Sunday, Quarter Horse struck their site and
packed up Saturday evening after the public had left. The bunker was
taken apart and brought home by several of the members to be reused at
future events.
The unit will soon be
saying "See You Later, Man" to one of it's members. Aaron Heft will be
leaving for training at Fort Benning. Aaron has given a great deal of
effort to the unit's growth, including providing the site for the unit's
training events two years in a row. Our prayers and best wishes go with
him
In two weeks, the unit
will be attending a tactical in Louisa, Virginia.

This past weekend, five members of Quarter Horse were
in attendance for the reunion for veterans of the Tet Offensive.
Renschler, Prestianni, Williams, and Whitney carpooled for the trip from
Pennsylvania and Delaware to Virginia to meet up with Campbell for the
reunion. The unit had a multi-table display with a handful of other
reenactors at the reunion and were given the chance to meet and speak
with several veterans about their experiences in Vietnam. The members
walked away with a renewed passion for the hobby and were reminded why
it is so important to keep going.
The unit will now get in gear
for it's first Living History display of the year at Marching Through
Time in Maryland during the month of April. Plans are being finalized
and construction is underway for a new reusable display for many of it's
Living History displays. The display will depict a section of the
perimeter of a firebase, including a bunker, foxhole, and barbed wire
and claymore mine fortifications.
7 January 2007 Quarter Horse is bustling with
anticipation for the new reenacting season. With several tacticals and
Living History displays already on the event schedule, it looks to be a
busy year for this unit as it enters its third year of existence.
Starting as a strictly Living-History unit with a few Airsoft and dummy
weapons, 1/4 Cav evolved into a fully functioning unit within a year. In
the middle of the second year, the unit attended it's second annual
training event with every man carrying their own functioning weapon and
complete kits. Now the unit is preparing for a year with many more
Living History events, returning to it's original purpose of educating
the public. 1/4 Cav is also pleased to announce that it's membership is
soon to cross 30 active and partially active members, and is able to
field an average of 7-10 members per event.
Be sure to check out the new updates
to the site. A historic photo archive has been added to the "Reference"
page. The Unit History has been revised, and always be sure to check the
ever expanding Photo Gallery from our events.
In other news, 1/4 Cav looks forward
to attending what looks to be the last reunion to be held in Virginia
for veterans of the Tet Offensive of 1968. This reunion was 1/4 Cav's
first event shortly after it's birth three years ago. Mark Prestianni
and 1/4 Cav's C/O Bob Campbell were in attendance. |
